Verbal communication refers to communication using the spoken word. Effective verbal communication relies on successful creation and delivery of the message and the listening and interpretation skills of the recipient. The interpretation of verbal communication can be affected by language barriers, use of jargon, ambiguity in the message or by selecting the wrong audience for the message.
Verbal communications include:
• Face-to-face
• Telephone
• Video-conferencing
• Radio/television broadcasting
Effective verbal communication is often linked to the non-verbal elements of the delivery of the message. For example, if the speaker said “No” but nodded their head whilst doing so, would you be confused?
