Non-Verbal Communication

Non-verbal communication refers to elements of communication which do not involve words.

Examples of non-verbal communication include:

• body language
• tone of voice
• facial or hand gestures
• use of props or images such as graphs and charts

Non-verbal communication can clarify the verbal message by giving context and additional explanation.

Non-verbal communication can also extend to the visual way in which we present ourselves to others, for example would you show up to a job interview in your pyjamas or a suit?

Using a combination of verbal and non-verbal communication is frequently the most effective way to deliver and affirm a message.
