Creating a Clear and Concise Message

To ensure the best chance of an effective Communication, the correct method and channel should be selected. The message should be relevant to the recipient or target audience, should be clear and should not be lost amongst a collection of other, irrelevant, information.

Before embarking on any communication you must ensure your message is:

  • Clear – unambiguous and as detailed as necessary
  •  Relevant – to the recipient/audience
  •  Accurate – be sure of your facts, opinions or reasons
  •  Coherent – try to stick to plain English, minimise the use of jargon
  •  Polite – getting the correct tone is difficult in a written message, however the message should always be courteous and polite
  •  Complete – ensure the message contains all the information you need to convey
